Wedding Gift Guide: Part 1

July 7, 2010 – Now that summer is getting into full swing, so is wedding season.  I don’t know about you, but I’ve had summers where it seemed like I was headed to a wedding every other weekend. After awhile, you start to get stumped for present ideas. It can be hard to find that perfect something special you know your friend will love. We’ve put together some of our favourite ideas – gifts we’ve given, received, or have seen customers put together as gifts.

When it comes to gifts, some of our favourites are when it’s been put together with a theme.  For example, a movie night at home.  For this kind of gift, you can start with a large bowl by local potters Anne Pryde or Wendy Shirran.

Fill the bowl with your favourite movie snacks like popcorn, licorice and junior mints and add some gift certificates for movie rentals or a subscription to When they have their movie night, they can use the bowl to hold their popcorn.  You can also add a cozy blanket by Nancy Boyne.

Her blankets are perfect for spending the evening curled up on the couch together to watch a movie.

If the happy couple are tea drinkers, an amazing tea pot and mugs by Anne Pryde would make a great gift.

Anne tests her teapots to make sure they pour well.  Pair that with some of your favourite teas and cookies, and you’ve got tea for two to bring to the wedding. I received handmade mugs as a wedding present and I always think about the friend who gave us the mugs when I use it.

Of course, if you’re the one getting married, you can always stop by the store and register with us – it’ll help your friends find you the unique, handmade Canadian presents that you know you’ll love and cherish for years to come.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll have some more wedding gift ideas. And remember, we can gift wrap presents for you. If you are putting together a gift like the ones we’ve suggested in this post, you can bring in the food or gift certificates and we’ll wrap it up with item that you’ve bought in the store.
