Dear G&M

Dear Globe and Mail,

Thank you for the article on Worn Journal in this Saturday’s Style Section (Saturday, January 15, 2010; pg 12). Love, Me Boutique is relatively new to the Worn fan club but we now wear our enthusiasm proudly. (We now carry plenty of back issues for others new to the club.) Really – what is not to love? This Canadian bi-annual magazine is everything I used to love about Jane and Paper magazines when I was a teen on the curb of all that was trendy: cool, interesting, smart, funny, silly, not all “here are the products that will make you look skinner/prettier/sexier” and more “here is some great cool stuff you might like”. I love that the fashiony spreads are about art direction, design, and the clothing but not about models or name brands. I love that I can look at the fashion spread and conjur up a bit of inspiration for my own wardrobe without feeling like I need THAT outfit to achieve the same effect. In fact, I love that the clothes can often be provided by artisans or Worn Journal staffers. And I love that this publication is about so many facets of fashion!

Anyhow I digress G&M. I just wanted to thank you for singing the praises of this true independent, DIY publication. Also thank you for the article about men’s hoodies being the new business apparel. It doesn’t really help me in my diversification efforts for my hoodie loving fella, but it was a nice read. (You should really write about CBE Hoodies. They are made in T.O. by a woman named Elly and she has seriously perfected the hoody – big & strong zippers, thick hoody strings, thumb holes, plush fleece, and great colour schemes. We carry them at Love, Me and I adore them.)

Love, Me.

Let’s Get Dressed!

Love, Me Boutique proudly presents the launch of Make New, the latest project from Anna Gilkerson. Make New is a bi-monthly collection of designer thrift and genuine vintage from the designer of the eco-chic line Deux FM. The collection launch event, suitable named Let’s Get Dressed, is perfectly timed for the fast-approaching holidays – mmmmm wooly tweeds, soft leathers, mixed knits, and vintage lace – Coastal Countryside Chic.

We would love it if you join us for some warm cider, delicious treats and some fabulous vintage finds (as well as some unreal Deux FM mark-downs).

New in Our Closet

You know what I love about Love, Me? (Yah I am gonna toot the store’s horn.) I love that we bring in new emerging designers no one else is carrying. And I love that emerging designers want to showcase here. Win. Win.

New in our closet is Tangente. Designer Cathy Landry’s line is one of those artists who entrusted Love, Me with her lovely goods. The Tangente line is full of great pieces to mix in with any wardrobe. I  like that the silouettes are simple with a construction twist. The Victoria top, for example, begins with a long sleeve turtleneck/collared concept but is less structured with an interesting wrap and tuck format. And the colour of blue is so beautiful!

I also love her wrap cardigan. I have always loved the idea of wraps but unless there is a signifcant tie, I am the girl that would get the ends of a wrap in my dinner. But the tangente “loop” wrap is again unstructured in its final look but constructed for simple “wrapping”.

If you are a fan of simple, easy to wear dresses with visual interest, you will want to check out the Chelsey Dress. This dress has a big cowl that can also be turned up and over as a hood. I think layered with a longsleeve underneath and some great tights and boots, this dress could rock your fall and winter wardrobe.

Find a Sweater…And You’ll Feel Better

Well there is no avoiding it. It is Autumn. Even though I mourn summer, I do enjoy many things about the fall season: hot cider, fall produce, my long wooly stripey socks, tights and boot combos, and woolen sweaters and accessories.

Today I am finishing up my fall window and main display complete with paint sample leaves. (Thank you Behr.) And now the new fall clothing and accessories seem more at home. Our mannequins are enjoying their new fall looks We3 bamboo tops in jewelled teal, deep tomato red, a gorgeous stone grey bamboo and cotton skirt, and a stunning merino wool sweater/jacket situation that is the perfect day to evening piece. We are also loving the fleece indoor/outdoor jacket from IClothing and the reconstructed sweaters by Paper People.

Mmmmm…fall goods

With all the leaves and wool and fleece I feel like a hot cider and some Hawksley Workman “Autumn’s Here”.

“Find a sweater and you’ll be better until the kindling is tinder dry…”

Art Preview: Good Day Studio

Not long ago, we started carrying “The Way Home”, a limited edition print t-shirt designed by Anna Stowe of Good Day Studio. The print is a design that Anna created for the traffic box at the corner of Portland St and Prince Arthur Ave in Dartmouth.

Now we’re adding another t-shirt print by Anna to the store. This one is called River Bliss and is a celebration of vintage motorcycle trials (or just really cool if you like bikes):

Both t-shirt designs are available in men’s (S-XL) and women’s (S-L) fits.

Anna’s t-shirts are actually a preview of bigger things to come.  We’re planning a show of Anna’s paintings for September, and judging by the painting we have in store right now, it’s going to be a fun one.

The show opens on September 17, so be sure to mark your calendars. In the meantime, stop by and check out these great t-shirts.  Love, Me is the only store carrying these prints (they’re not even in Anna’s online shop).

New in Store: Wanderlust Small Goods

The recent arrival of purses by Wanderlust Small Goods means we have something by each of the artists from North Pocket Studios in store.

North Pocket Studio was recently created by three textile artists – Joanna Close, Rilla Marshall and Keeley McLean.  We carry drawings and postcards by Joanna, scarves by Rilla and now Keeley’s amazing purses.

It’s hard not to fall in love with these bags. They’re roomy enough to carry groceries and pretty enough to be your everyday purse. And because most of us carry at least seven different little things that get lost in purses (keys, phones, lip balm, loose change, bus tickets, a pen, hair clips, etc…), there is a front pocket that’s big enough to hold all those little things and convenient enough to get at them in a hurry.

These purses might just be our new favourite bag.

Souvenirs of Canadiana: Identity Tees

July 2, 2010 – Canada Day has passed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Canada all summer long.  You can do just that with these great men’s tees from Identity.

The designs on these shirts are a fun and stylish way to show off your pride in Canadian culture.

Identity tees are great for guys who are looking for something different to wear to summer BBQs and parties.  A plaid curling rock? A houndstooth igloo? A wood grain beaver? These are shirts that are going to be noticed by your fellow party goers.

We <3 We3!

June 8, 2010 – Emoticons aren’t usually are thing, but we really do heart (<3) the clothing by we3.  A new shipment has arrived just in time for the summer weather.  This batch of We3 includes shirts and dresses that would be great for wearing to the office in the summer.  The soft, light organic cotton would feel like a dream in humid weather.

The Modify Top is a versatile, sleeveless boatneck.

You can make this top your own: wear it loose or tied in the front or back. The front and back seams help add length to the body.

The gathered raglan cap sleeve essential top is a pretty t-shirt that is easily dressed up for work.

We3 has given this t-shirt a little something extra by adding ruching detail around the sleeves that make it great for dressing up or down.  The scooped out neckline falls in just the right place to be flattering without giving it all away.

A great go-to dress for just about any occasion during the summer is the Acclimate.

Designed with bra-friendly straps and a not too low V (it was raised 1″ for production from the pic), it has a flattering silhouette on almost any body type. The dress has ties that come from back centre seam, which lets you decide where the belt should sit.
