I can fix all your problems. Well, a lot of them. Especially this one: “I need a gift for …. and he/she has EVERYTHING.” Love, Me Boutique’s solution also works for any invitation which reads: “don’t bring gifts”. Or for when you are dreading finding yet another gift for yet another kid birthday party. The Love, Me solution is about giving you a gift that meets your criteria for unique, fun, cost effective (read under $20), and best of all – effortless.
Fixing all your gift giving problems in a timely, affordable, and super rockin’ way since 2011 – Love, Me’s Birthday Surprise Ball!
If Surprise Ball sounds familiar, it is because we created and launched them last year for the holiday season. And they were a hit. So we created a birthday themed ball to have in our shops year round. Filled with super fun (& sweet!) colourful surprises as well as some traditional birthday goodies, the surprise ball is both a fun gift and a silly, happy experience. Unwrapping the layers of paper reveals surprise after surprise.
You probably want to know what is inside the balls, don’t you? Well if I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise. I will share a picture with you of one item found in every ball – a birthday badge of honour handmade by me with some delightfully coloured felt.
And because this is the gift that keeps on giving, our surprise balls are wrapped in pretty layers of paper strips which can then be used to decorate the birthday party space or used to create more fun. I recently gave some Surprise Balls to the kids of a friend of mine and as soon as the ball was finished and all sugar was consumed, they got to work making themselves capes, Rapunzel braids, and colourful animal tails with their wrappings. So fun.
Oh! Here is the effortless part – it is already wrapped. Toss that ball off to the intended and let the hootenanny begin!
So next time you run out of time, ideas, or dollars for a birthday gift, stop by the shop and pick up a Surprise!!!
I wouldn’t classify this store as trendy. But it is funny how trends make the rounds from runway and magazines to product designers and artisan handmade culture to mainstream and back again. Braids have been seen everywhere lately from hair trends to accessories. And I admit, I am really enjoying the braid resurgence. So I was super excited to receive a recent box of goodies from Fleet Objects.
The braid jewellery collection is drool worthy for sure. I love the simple elegance of the leather braid necklaces & rings and the chunky layering (another trend) of the bracelets. Artisan Zoe (of Fleet Objects) crafted a beautiful line of bohemian casual meets refinery that can be both multi-season and with a variety of outfits.
Love, Me is excited to have a limited collection of Fleet Object braid jewellery collection.
Like any proud carrier of Irish and English heritage, I love me some carbs. True I adore veggies and fruits, but when it comes to the “guts” of a meal, I do love a big ol’ pile of saucy noodles. Yup. Be them Chinese, Japanese, Italian, or German – I heart noodles.
So it is really no surprise that a great new Love, Me product has won my heart. My cool weather comfort food is noodles and now my cool weather comfort accessory is…well…noodles?? Neck noodles are a fun necklace/scarf/ridiculously fun accessory made right here in the ‘Fax and available at Love, Me. Neck noodles are made from up-cycled premium tshirts and gathered in a way that makes wearing them both easy and fun. (Seriously there are a crazy number of ways to wear the noodles.) With plenty of solid or tie-dyed colours to choose from, the noodles with add both zing to an outfit & comfort to a style.
Just like its pasta namesake, no matter how you loop it, scoop it or swoop it, its delish!
P.S. Neck Noodles are not restricted to cool weather. I am just being a tad grumpy today about the weather forecast. Hey! I have high (and perhaps unrealistic) hopes for my summer weather.
June is Oceans Month.
Here’s a mind blowing thought: “80% of all the life on Earth is to be found hidden beneath the waves and this vast global ocean pulses around our world driving the natural forces which maintain life on our planet.” (source) And “80% of marine pollution comes from land-based activities.” (source)
One of main threats to this ecosystem is plastics.
Speaking of babies, did you know what cute little wee kiddos, a local company and plastics in oceans have something in common? Little Fish!
Little Fish is a clothing line developped by Amanda Langely of Twice Upon a Time Clothing. Amanda’s mandate for both her clothing lines is to update previously owned baby and small children’s fashions with her embroidered patches and appliques. Little Fish is a specific line which is ocean inspired commissioned by a local education company called Oceans Wild.
Other than cute appliques of sea life or heart patches emblazoned with the word ocean on them, Little Fish is raising awareness about the plastics in our ocean by having a plastic drink ring attached to each garment. A customer will need to snip the plastic ring in order to remove it from the clothing. (Drink rings floating in the ocean get caught easily around the snouts, beaks, mouths of many sea creatures.)
Do you heart the ocean too? The Little Fish heart ocean patches will fit anyone – wee or not! The patches are $6 or if you bring in 6 plastic rings during the month of June, you can get a free Ocean patch.
And if you are a teacher or group leader, consider having Oceans Wild come speak to your group of youngsters about our oceans. They are a little (and local) education company with a big message.

Pardon our lack of blogging lately, our computer was feeling sluggish and sad and while she still chugs, she allowed us a moment to pop on to wish everyone a super happy chocolately Easter.
Please note that Love, Me will comply with laws and will be closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday (as well as our usual Monday closure). But fret not we will be open this Saturday in order to help you fill those baskets with extra sweet (non-chocolately) goodies. Almost one month ago, an 8.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Japan creating powerful tremors and a devastating tsunami. Worldwide people have been stunned by the photos and videos and felt a deep sadness in their hearts for the people of Japan.
A few days after the tsunami I had a meeting with Megan LeForte of Stella Polaris Studios. (Yes she is also the jeweller who will be having a Mother’s Day trunk show/Design-Your-Mom Jewellery event here at the shop on April 16.) She had come in to drop off her gorgeous Swarovski crystal jewellery collection made specifically for Love, Me. We talked about this current event and talked about what can be done. Megan took action. “I want to do something. I need to do something.” Within minutes of us meeting over her collection she had already decided she would design a red Swarovski crystal cluster necklace and matching earrings to be auctioned off via herself and Love, Me.
